Water, Does a Body Good

When people ask me what I want to drink I say, “Water, please.”  When people ask me what my favorite drink is, I say, “Water.”  That might be shocking to some of you, then again, it might be your favorite drink too.  My body CRAVES water, does yours?  I find myself thirsty and dehydrated if I drink anything besides water. Can anyone relate?

We all know our bodies are composed of 70% (or more) water. It only makes since that which you are made of, your body needs. Water flushes toxins out of vital organs, carries nutrients to your cells and provides a moist environment for ear, nose and throat tissues. Water is nature’s most effective medicine because it is essential for cleaning and removing toxins from the body. When your body does not get enough water it cannot remove toxins and problems start occurring.

By the time you feel thirsty, your body is already in a dehydrated state. Dehydration thus can make you look bloated and fat instead of thin and taut. The best way to get rid of this water retention is to drink enough of water to return your body and its processes back to  its normal, healthy state.

Rule of thumb is to drink half your body weight. Might sound like a lot, but if you remember your body is 70% water, it will help keep the focus of knowing and understanding why you need to drink as much as you do.

A few tips to help you drink more water

1. Keep a water bottle with you at all times.

2. Sip on water all throughout the day.

3. Drink water when you start to feel hungry (in between meals and snack times).

4. Drink two full glasses at each meal, one before and one after. Also, drink one glass before each snack so you don’t eat as much.

5. When you wake up in the morning, drink a full glass of water.

6. Keep a log of how many ounces you are drinking each day.

7.  Drink water at room temperature versus on ice or chilled. It is actually better for you.

8. Drinking more water helps with weight loss and to keep it off. “Drinking two 8-ounce glasses of water before breakfast, lunch, and dinner while also cutting back on portions may help you lose weight and keep it off for at least a year, according to research presented today at the annual meeting of the American Chemical Society, in Boston.”

9.  Exercise.  This will cause you to not only sweat and release toxins, but it will also cause you to drink more. Always increase your water intake prior, during and upon exercising.

For those that struggle drinking water, I highly recommend adding vitality essential oils to your water. This is like making your own flavored water, without the artificial ingredients and chemicals. Not only does it taste great, but the essential oils will further aid in cleansing and detoxification, just like water does. So, in essence, you are getting double the benefit by adding essential oils to your water. There are several essential oils to spice up your water. A few essential oils to try are:

grapefruit, lemon, citrus fresh, and spearmint vitality essential oil.

I caution you on many of the  flavored water that is on the market. Look at the ingredients. Look for the sugar that is used. Does it have natural and artificial flavorings? Is it sugar free? If so, do not buy them! They are actually harmful to your body. Do not buy anything with artificial ingredients, artificial sweeteners.

Here is an example of ingredients on a bottle of flavored water: Filtered Carbonated Water, Citric Acid, Natural Flavor, Potassium Citrate, Aspartame, Potassium Benzoate (A Preservative), Acesulfame Potassium. Phenylketonurics: Contains Phenylalanine. NO, NO, NO!

If you are currently not a big fan of drinking water, I encourage you to take the challenge. Every time you want something to drink, pour yourself a glass of water. Do not drink coffee, tea, juice, or soda, drink water.  All of the other drinks actually will cause dehydration. This is the opposite of what we are trying to accomplish. Once you start drinking water, the more you will actually want. Come the end of this challenge you will reap the rewards and your health with abound.

I am trying to figure out what oil is beneficial to add to water and also drinkable. Geranium makes my throat prickle in an unpleasant allergic reaction kind of way! Any suggestions?

I love your website. i have recently learned about essential oils this summer at a church seminar . So i have been trying to research them some. i wanted to add on your drinking water that your not suppose to drink anything with your meals if u can help it. 30 mins. prior and 30 mins. after it hurts the digestion process and helps you use the bathroom better. i have learned a lot from your site. Thank you. Also i was glad to see something about silver, our church has been using it for years9 along with charcole), we like to take it for colds, sore throats, infections, etc.
Thanks again,

I was just wondering if it is okay to put young living essential oils in one of those fill and go filtered water bottles.

Hey Olivia! I am not sure what a fill and go bottle is. You may put your YLEO in glass or stainless steel bottles. :)
