What Do You See in the Mirror?

What do you see in the mirror?

When you look at yourself, what do you see?  What goes through your mind?  Are they good thoughts or are they bad?  Do you have more positive or negative things to say about yourself?

Have you ever asked yourself why you are saying or thinking those thoughts?  There has to be a reason!  Our thoughts create a pattern and the pattern becomes a habit.  Our words are very powerful!  So are our thoughts!  God’s word says, “as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.”  (Proverbs 3:27) Wow!  That is a pretty strong statement.  Do you really take that statement to heart?  If you recorded yourself all throughout the day, what words would you hear coming out of your mouth?  Would they be positive, encouraging, uplifting words, or would they be the exact opposite?

Let’s challenge ourselves today and get behind the “man in the mirror” and really see who that person is in the mirror!

For some, this might be a simple task, but for others, it will be a huge challenge.  Some of you like what you see in the mirror, but many of you don’t.  What I challenge you with today is to see yourself in the mirror as how others see you.  Most importantly, see yourself in the mirror as how God sees you!  He sees you as wonderfully and fearfully made!  He doesn’t see the blemishes and the flaws that you see!  God doesn’t focus on the outward appearance, He focuses on the heart!

Each and every time you look in the mirror and you see yourself, say something “good” about yourself!

I know this sounds prideful, but actually it is not.  You are not puffing yourself up!  You are just seeing yourself how God created you and loving (or for some, learning to love) yourself for who you are.  This doesn’t excuse yourself to be a glutten, or to not take care of yourself physically, spiritually and emotionally, but it is a framework of your mind to love yourself and see yourself the way God sees you.

When you see yourself in the mirror, realize it is a heart and a mind change that must take place.

Romans 12:2 says, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

Philippians 4:8 says, “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”

2 Corinthians 10:4-5 says, “For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.”

A fabulous quote that I like to use is, “I can’t afford to say or think anything about myself that God doesn’t say or think.”  (Bill Johnson) How powerful is that!  That will get you to think like God!

May your healing journey begin today of how you see yourself in the mirror!  What a blessing to be on this journey of healing together!  God wants you whole:  physically, spiritually, mentally and emotionally.  So do I!  The cross is shaped vertically and horizontally.  We were created for God and each other.

What do you see when you look in the mirror?  Do you have a renewed mind?  Have your thoughts changed about how you see yourself?  Share your stories below! We want to hear from you!

Have a blessed day! :)

You never cease to amaze me. God surely blessed you with a gift. Continue to use it to encourage others and in doing so glorify Him. Praise God for the honor and title he has given me “Mother”. I love you and am so proud of the woman you have become. The seed was planted years ago when you started private school, Baptist Tabernacle, we just didn’t realize it, God’s plan is amazing.

God is good, indeed! I give Him all the glory and owe it all to Him. I have surrendered my life to Him and Him alone.. He is my everything and each and every day gets better and better! I love you and am pleased to be your “daughter.” Thank you for your kind words and may you rejoice in the Lord always and live for Him and reflect Him in thought, word, and deed! :) I love you!!!

Such a wonderful and encouraging post. It is true: what we say to ourselves matters tremendously. Thank you for reminding me to speak His truth into my life.
